Let’s make Earth Day, every day

This week, we’re celebrating Earth Day, a global initiative first launched in 1970 to celebrate our planet and highlight the importance of preserving it. Now 51 years on, the topic is more important than ever.

Held on April 22nd, Earth Day is an annual day that unites individuals focusing on protecting the planet by preventing negative impact on the environment related to climate change and environmental destruction.

The power to fight climate change starts with you.

Earth Day has since transformed into a day in which a wide variety of activities geared toward environmental protection ranging from conferences and panel discussions to global clean up events are organized via Earthday.org. The website is extremely informative and user-friendly and includes a global map denoting all events that will be held worldwide, online and otherwise. It serves as a portal for anyone who wants to host their own event and will provide information and access to the wide variety of events that have been organized worldwide for the day and involve approximately 1 billion people and nearly 200 different countries.

Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the date’s launch and it was also celebrated with a variety of events held online. The digital tradition continues this year for many of the events and serves to break down the borders of location and accessibility by being open to anyone and everyone.

And as more people demand clean power, the more infrastructure gets built and the lower the price goes.

Consumer demand for renewable energy sources is one of the most immediate actions you can take to lower your carbon footprint. As the cost of constructing renewable energy sources like wind, solar and geothermal decreases, renewable energy is now an economical option for utilities.

Wouldn’t you be happier knowing that when you flip the light switch at home that electricity is flowing from renewable sources?

As the world changes, so will our priorities for preserving our earth. It may feel daunting or overwhelming, but even small steps can have an impact and it’s important to take that first step. We strongly believe that if you don’t do anything, you won’t achieve anything. André Malraux, a 20th century French novelist and politician, once said that great dreams lead people to great deeds.

It’s our mission to encourage all generations to lower their carbon footprint and make more environmentally-friendly choices – and what better day to make a start than Earth Day!

Ready to make the switch to 100% green energy?
